Crystal Castles release their second self titled record today and its a welcome step up on their debut effort that sold comfortably despite being as consistent as Lee Trundle in an average Championship side. Like a civil servant hoping for a pay rise; blogging about this band today is completely pointless because no one is going to read/listen to this drivel. The return of Underworld has been under reported; especially amongst the mainstream music press. This is unfortunate for the wider public as their first effort in years, 'Scribbler' is typical of an act that have mastered the art of the techno/house anthem. Butterfly House

The best British band of a generation; The Coral, return this summer with a new album their sixth in total if you include the mini album Night Freak.... Not a bad return considering they have only been around as The Coral for little over a decade. The album title track, 'Butterfly House' is being circulated as a taster for things to come. Kingtree and the Roots - 'High Tide'

Yet more goodness from Manchester; this time in the form of Kingtree and the Roots who have kindly given me a track to post up here. They don't have any shows in the near future but hopefully this will change as 'High Tide' shows a lot of promise. If I was to compare them to anyone I'd say it were a bit like Doves fronted by Mark Lanegan - thats my opinion mind so please ignore the bullshit as you choose.

Hyacinth Girl

The music scene in Manchester is really healthy at the moment with a wide variety of bands vying for the attention of gig going loacals. Hyacinth Girl are my current favourite and will be a band to watch out for in 2010. Anyhow check the track 'Everybody Knows' below. To me it sounds a little like early Flaming Lips with a bit of Gang of Four thrown in the mix; enjoy.
